Qualified veterinarian bringing compassionate care to your home
I became a veterinarian because I care about animals, and I started offering home visits because I care about reducing their stress. Having worked in conventional clinics, I was bothered by how many pets get anxious at the vets — and how we often push through with "having to get it done" in 15-20 minutes, regardless of the pet's comfort.
The traditional clinic structure is very human-centric. I wanted to create something different.
Being outside instead of confined to a consult room all day. Having the flexibility to approach each situation in the way that works best for that particular pet and family. Taking time with pets that are less comfortable, without the pressure of a packed appointment schedule.
I enjoy driving around the Franklin countryside — it's one of the perks of the job. I like nature, wide open spaces, and meeting pets and people in their more natural environment.
"I think about my clients like my parents' neighbours — people I need to look after and be able to look in the eye."
I want to establish long-term relationships where clients see real value in the service and feel confident in the care their pets receive.
I believe in honest and straightforward communication. I want to understand what good pet health looks like to you, considering your values and budget, then help you with options and approaches that fit best.
I'm a qualified veterinarian with over 20 years of practice experience. I have additional post-graduate study in small animal medicine, including Membership from the Australian and New Zealand College of Veterinary Scientists in small animal medicine.
I've also completed master's papers in dermatology, ophthalmology, clinical pathology, and soft tissue surgery. While I maintain a broad general practice perspective, I'm particularly passionate about making pet health less stressful for animals and doing a thorough job every time.
At home, we have three rescue cats. The incumbent, Michael, is a solid black male and a bit on the chunky side. Ginge and Gloria arrived at my last clinic as tiny three-week-old kittens in rough shape—covered in fleas and without a mum.
I took them home "just for the night"... and somehow never got around to finding them new homes! Michael is still a bit miffed about the whole arrangement.
I'm fond of cows. We have seven beef heifers of various shapes and sizes on our 12-acre lifestyle block. A cow sitting in the sun ruminating seems like pure contentment to me.
I try to work with each pet's natural temperament rather than forcing them into situations that make them uncomfortable. Within reason, I give pets the time and space they need to feel comfortable.
Sometimes we have to accept that strangers and vets are stressful to some pets. I try to do what needs to be done with minimum stress for everyone involved.
